I'm behind with sharing pics from weddings...this was a small wedding at Frankies 457 a few weeks ago. Never use lily's but enjoyed working with them here...they sorta amp up the drama a bit...another bride with excellent taste -- beautiful name cards by Jenna Hein and Mast Brothers Chocolate bars as the favors.

i love the nyc subway. you go under in greenwich village, you come up in downtown brooklyn. when its really cooking it kind of rocks back and forth lulling you into a sort of half-sleep where you can rest but not get your wallet stolen...but then there are the times where you get stuck in the tunnel between stations for 20 minutes, encourageing the woman who is preaching about armegedon, jesus and rapture to raise her voice and flail her arms 3 inches from your face in emphasis... and that's not relaxing, that's a panic attack.

special soap post

It has been said I hog the blogspace for flower stuffs. In fact, flowers are a small fraction of the work we do here. When we opened the shop, flowers were an indulgent hobby of mine. I'd spend 150 dollars a week at the flower market and not sell a single stem. More specifically, Eric would drive me to the flower market, I'd spend the money he made selling soap, and then make him take me out to breakfast at the diner on 23rd and 8th avenue. Then he'd drop me off at work and would have to run home to get the flowers in water per my specific instructions...

Soap it seems has not always gotten it's fair share of attention. Here, I give you a soap update:

Dog bone soap is back, via necessity (Nea likes to take the occasional dip off Valentino Pier, where death lives in the water) and popular demand. It's a 50% olive oil soap - very good for your dog's dry skin. The essential oil blend contains lavender, pennyroyal and citronella for repelling insects.

Also check this out; Design Within Reach has a new Tools for Living section (and store) and they are featuring some of our jamzzz! Perusing the online catalog this morning I found some great things like a tepee and a nifty rope doorstop. Tepee's...so hot right now. Discuss amongst yourselves.

apples, wedding, etc.

This was a black and white wedding we did last weekend at the Boathouse in Prospect Park:

This is what I've been up to while hiding out from this blog:

Went for an annual at like a proper adult.
Bought skin tight acid wash jeans to counter-act adult actions.
Returned acid wash jeans in favor of eating.
Went apple picking.
Ate apple crisp.
Ate apple crisp.
Made apple chutney. Ate apple chutney with porkchops. Ate apple chutney on turkey and cheddar sandwich.
Got new TV on the Radio.

from me to you with peach colors

Monday morning and I have a moment to reflect before we start the wedding engine again for next weekend...things have been overwhelming and busy lately, but somehow we've managed to teach Nea how to "roll over." It's taken several days, and countless cheerios, but suddenly she gets it. Now we can invite our friends Jen and Nick over. (Their dog can do this trick, and hell if I'm going to have a dog that can't. Thank god we don't have children...

Trying our hands at apple picking upstate today, after a disappointing peach season. Every peach I've had this season has been pithy. Last week I had three in the fruit bowl. I bit into one...pithy. I took the second ...also pithy. All three were shit. Facing three torn up peaches on the cutting board I conjured Martha who appeared to me in all her glory and instructed me to combine rosemary from my cutting garden, a bourbon vanilla bean, gold dust and sugar. Toss this with the peaches and refrigerate over night. Then make a mini-double crust pie.

[FYI, THIS NEVER HAPPENS] Why is the pinot covered in flour? Because i don't have a rolling pin, and a full (unopened) bottle does the trick in a pinch. This pie was good, not great, but the peaches (cooked) redeemed themselves. Rosemary sugar keeps in the fridge and can be used for...i don't know actually - any ideas?

Above picture of the most beautiful pumpkin I ever saw...this picture would be the inspiration for a "color board" if I ever did that....

more wedding jamzzzzzzz

One of my favorite weddings to date -- this past Saturday at the Foundry. Beautiful escort cards were lettered by Betsy Dunlap and we tied them with velvet ribbon (found also on the bouquets which I FORGOT to photograph) and sprigs of eucalyptus. The table numbers were attached with twigs directly into the table arrangements.
