[From last weekend's wedding: pussy willow, anemones, ranunculas, sweetpea, majolika spray roses a bit of gypsophillia. Teal ribbon.]
How good is the Greenpoint Coffee House, Right? Food - easy and delicious. Coffee - tremendous. Uncrowded, comfortable.

How bad is the art at PS1 right now? Contrived. Trite. Come on! (Save for the Kenneth Anger show which is fantastic, but by the time we got to it, we had wasted so much time pondering the lameness of ripping a photo of the pope in half, and naming the piece "After Sinead O'Connor." Oh no, son...no you didn't...wait - yes he did.) We snapped a few pictures even though it's against the rules because someone had to document the fact that I achieved escape velocity from the confines of red hook.

WALL STREET: scenes, part I

*ring ring*

Gordon Gekko: hello?
Me: Gordon, its Sarah....
Gordon: I told you not to call me on this number.
Me: ehem. I know. But we need to talk. About this number. And your phone. And your slicked hair, which i tried to replicate tonight after stepping out of shower...except I fell miserably short. You use product or something?
Gordon: This sunrise is phenomenal. It's making me hungry for power and wealth and steak tare tare.
Me: Fructis Garnier? Panteen? L.A. Looks?...
Gordon: I bought another Picasso last week...
Me: ...Vidal Sassoon? Vitalis?
Gordon: ...and an island off the coast of Costa Rica...which is not an island, Sarah.
Me: mhmm. Do you blow dry?
Gordon: I have to run, my dune-buggy won't start and the angle of the sun tells me the Japanese markets are about to close. Listen, Sarah, greed is good. The richest one percent of this country owns half our country's wealth. Money itself isn't lost or made, it's simply transferred from one perception to another.
Me: ...POMADE? MOUSSE?...wait, have you been talking to my father? Who sent you? WHO SENT YOU???

3. Friend and cohort Ashley is working on a project and needs to get in with someone who cans in the city. That's like putting vegetables in cans and jars for the winter. I lost you didn't I...well if you or someone you know is a canner, please get in touch with her via her blog: Small-measure

Relapse

Sunday morning shame spiral. Surfing the net, Nea and I find ourselves dragged down into the Milli Vanilli vortex once again. Next thing you know I'm downloading Klymaxx. Why does this keep happening...? Hit me up with what you're listening too, or else everyone who visits Saipua today will be dragged down with me and my shoulder-padded-double-breasted blazer...Girl, you know it's true.

valentines left-overs, and one of these things is not like the other...

and that thing is a red velvet cake by one of the most talented bakers I know. yes, she can make a killer spotted red velvet cake that you can eat for breakfast day after day until your eyes turn red. and yes, she can make your wedding cake. serious inquiries only.

My assistant, Amanda Huginkiss is surfing in Costa Rica for a month. It physically hurts me to write that. She's going to come back tanner and thinner than me and this is an unacceptable scandal in Saipua Land. Now that you all know how shallow I am, I might as well also confess that until two weeks ago I thought Costa Rica was an island.

THE GLORY OF GOD

I HAVE MELTED INTO A POOL OF SPARKLY-LOVE-TEARS ON THE FLOOR

Happy Valentines everyone! I have my hands wrapped in band-aids, and am wearing red tiger-striped sweater! I just got back from the flower market after a 6am "shit I don't have enough flowers" panic. So here we go, I'm turning up my special best of Barbara Streisand mix which will be on repeat ALL DAMN DAY.

DECORATOR; music by Jim Croce, lyrics by Sarah Ryhanen

Decorator, oh could you help me pimp my crib
You see the paint on the walls is old and faded
I'm livin in NY
With my best old tattered digs...
A couch she said she knew well and sometimes hated

Isn't that the way they say it goes
Hand-me-down sofas...
So give me your number and wholesale access
To Schumacher fabric
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
***That it just wasn't real***
But that's not the way it feels

Decorator, oh could you help me make this call
'Cause I'm just not sold on cerulean velvet
There's something in my eye's
You know it happens every time
I think about the throw-rugs I thought would save me...

yes I did

mom, me, jessica

Incidentally, this photo shows the couch I'm recovering, and I'd really love to find a fabric similar. It's like a Maurice Sendak drawing, you know? And look at those lovely ladies. This must have been right after my sister Jessica was born. The expression on my face is straight up freaky deaky...as in "I'm going to make your life a living hell little one...I'll throw the remote control at your head and make you eat Meow Mix! Happy birthday a bit early Jessica, glad you finally grew out of that mustasche.

The best Pakistani food is on 9th Ave between 36th and 37th. $5 lunch, nice and spicy. The most unusual mint green color graces the walls, floor and booths. I'm currently trying to put together a color scheme for the biggest personal project of my life: reupholstering a couch. Aren't you excited? Any tips on where to get good upholstery fabric? Because there's just a lot of wide wale corduroy and fleur de lis out there. And not enough love.
